Healthy Capital: Sustainable Investment for Hospital Foundations

Project Status: Ongoing

Project Description

The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care is leading a two-year initiative (2025-2027) to empower hospital foundation boards across Canada to learn and build capacity to integrate sustainable investment practices and align the capital they manage with their foundation’s health-focused missions. With expert guidance and tools created by a community of practice, board members and decision-makers will gain access to essential resources to discern and integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their investing practices.

Climate change, one ESG factor, represents a systemic risk that can impact long-term financial stability of investments. Overseeing climate-related risks and opportunities is crucial for board directors to meet their fiduciary obligations. Incorporating climate and ESG factors is a key step in mitigating this risk, while better aligning with hospital foundation’s missions and evolving stakeholder expectations.

By championing sustainable investment practices, hospital foundations can leverage their unique position in healthcare to drive meaningful, far-reaching impact that benefits both their organizations and the communities they serve.
